Wilma Lorraine Walston Heath

August 6, 1955 ~ March 30, 2025

Born in: Edgecombe County, NC
Resided in: Whitakers, NC

Whitakers – Wilma Lorraine Walston Heath, age 69, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on August 6, 1955, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Walston and Lorraine Galloway Walston.

Growing up Wilma was precocious and eager to learn.  She taught herself to read before entering first grade and thereafter was an excellent student, winning many essay contests throughout her education.  Wilma was honored to present one of her essays to a local community organization, which her mother was so proud of and as a token of remembrance, she kept the dress Wilma had worn.  A registered nurse for nearly 30 years, Wilma had gone back to school to obtain her associates degree when her children were in junior high school.  She worked in long-term care and had a passion for serving her elderly patients, whom she loved, and they loved her.  A devoted and loving mother, “nana” to both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, and dear friend to many, Wilma will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Gina Rouse and her husband, Shane; her son, Jamie Bullock; her grandchildren, Lilah Rouse of Minnesota, Will Rouse (Alysa) of La Grange, and Cora Rouse (Braden Gregory) of Texas; her great-grandchildren, Winston Rouse, Allen Rouse, and Anthony Rouse all of La Grange, and Colt Gregory of Texas; her companion and special friend, William Reginald Edwards of Whitakers; her brother, Bobby Walston and wife, Evelyn, of Tarboro; and many extended family members and dearest friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Wilma’s life will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.  Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
