ROCKY MOUNT - Tony Eddy Severin, known as Eddy by his family, began his earthly journey on September 15th, 1954 in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. He was the last child born to the late Joseph P. Severin and Divina I. Turene. He moved to the United States when he was young with his family and was raised in Brooklyn, New York. Eddy was an inquisitive child, always questioning how things worked and why people did the things they did. Even at a young age, doing his absolute best was a noticeable character trait that would follow him well into adulthood.
Eddy never did anything mediocre and that included how he studied and ran track. Eddy graduated top of his class from Erasmus Hall High School in 1974. In his class yearbook, under his austere senior photo it says, "Plans to become an Electrical Engineer" and that is exactly what he did. Not long after, Eddy fulfilled that dream graduating from both Staten Island College and Florida International University.
Eddy married his high school sweetheart, Marie Jocelyn Bernard 45 years ago and relocated with his lovely wife to Miami, FL where they grew their family by four more. Eddy was a family man. A proud and devoted father who saw his children as the apple of his eye. He could be found helping with homework, attempting to braid hair or spending time laughing and joking.
Eddy was a teacher. For several years he taught Calculus and Circuits at Miami Dade Community College, but he was also a spiritual teacher. Eddy knew God from a young age having been raised by a devoted Christian woman but found his footing in his faith as a teenager. Eddy held strong to his faith; loved studying the word of God and teaching others about its wonders. In 2016 Eddy and his wife became ordained ministers with the intent to travel throughout the nation via RV sharing and teaching the Word of God.
In September of 2019 Eddy retired after 35 plus years working in the field of Electronic Design Engineering. Sadly, in May of 2020 Eddy was diagnosed with inoperable, stage III lung cancer before he was able to fulfill his post retirement plan to minister alongside his wife. He stood bravely in the face of cancer and fought the good fight for over a year through months of chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. He fought until all options were exhausted and bravely made the decision to live out the rest of his days with no more treatments at home comfortably with his family.
Eddy made his earthly departure on June 17, 2021, in the presence of his wife and children. He was surrounded with love and devotion until the very end.
Eddy is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Divina Severin, siblings Franklin Severin, Marie F. Severin, and Jocelyn Severin. Eddy is survived by his wife Marie J Severin, his children Gabrielle Severin, Michaelle and Jeffery Theall, Richard and Amy Severin and Rebecca Severin; his grandchildren Imani Severin and her fianc Joseph Jarosz, Sophia Theall, Bladen Theall and Mackenzie Severin; his aunt Agilla Turene, his siblings who include Wiener and Mary Jane Severin, Maria Christina and Lakeshia Severin, Stone and Toni Marty, Ester Jean-Baptiste, Joseph Severin Jr, and Linda Severin; Eddy is survived by many nieces and nephews who include Sandy and Felix Joseph, Fritz Pierre, Leonard Severin, Rolando Sinald, Angel Severin, Jayda Marty, Tatiyanah Marty, Taniyah Marty, Kristian Marty, Kaitlyn Marty and their respective spouses and children; by cousins who include Wisvick Benoit, Marco Benoit, Chantel Dorce and all other relatives unnamed.
