Thurman Hubert Hackney

NASHVILLE - Thurman Hubert Hackney, age 96, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on May 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Mack Allen Hackney and Mary Bunn Hackney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Louise" Langston Hackney; his sister, Christine Hackney Ward; and his brothers, Louis Gray Hackney, Jake Hackney, John Allen Hackney, William R. "Bully" Hackney, and Jimmy Lee Hackney. Thurman is survived by several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service to celebrate Thurman's life will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Thurman's memory to Nash UNC Health Care Hospice & Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   1. My family lived next to Thurman and Louise on East Duke Circle until hurricane Floyd flooded their homes. Even though Thurman was my parents age we had a special relationship that was more like peers. We would spend hours discussing philosophy, religion, world situations, Constantly exchanging books and reading materials, he was a mentor and a great friend. I will miss him but he would be the first to remind me that he is now in a better place than me.

  2. I`m so sorry for your lose. I lived next to Mr. Thurman and Louise for awhile on Duke Circle. They were such sweet people. Me and the kids along with the dogs would visit them everyday.
