Thomas “Dwight” Fisher

June 10, 1945 ~ May 20, 2018

RED OAK - Thomas "Dwight" Fisher, age 72, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Nash County, NC on June 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Tommie Henderson Fisher and Lessie Denson Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Cheryl Pollard Fisher. Dwight was raised on the family farm and served his country in the National Guard. He was a hard worker with the Rocky Mount Railroad, a farmer and later retired from Braswell Milling Company. Dwight served his community as a volunteer with the Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department and later on as a member of the Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors. He was an active member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Dwight loved his Lord and Savior. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Dwight leaves behind to cherish his memory, one daughter, Catryna Whitehurst and husband, Paul of Red Oak; three sons, Walter Brent Fisher and wife, Ashton, of Red Oak, Michael Bryant Fisher and wife, Julie, of Red Oak, and Adam Scott Fisher and wife, Ashley, of Red Oak. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Samantha Fisher, Gigi Whitehurst, Grayson Johnson, Michaela Fisher, Reid Fisher, Rylan Fisher, Alaina Fisher, Olivia Fisher and baby Fisher; one sister, Janice Thomas of Kannapolis; one niece, April Thomas; and one nephew, Randy Thomas. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Red Oak Baptist Church, 5515 Red Oak Road, Red Oak, with Rev. Chris Fowler and Rev. Nate James officiating. Burial will follow the service at Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. The Family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Weiss of UNC Cancer Hospital and staff; Dr. Shah of UNC Otolaryngology and staff; and to the staff of Nash Health Care System Hospice & Palliative Care during Dwight's illness.
