Rosa Alene Ivey "Ms. A" Hagwood

ROCKY MOUNT – Rosa Alene Ivey “Ms. A” Hagwood, age 97, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Born in Harnett County, NC on October 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Washington Ivey, Sr. and Ruby Alice Stewart Ivey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Branch “L.B.” Hagwood; her sisters, Doris Ivey Chandler, Elizabeth Ivey Anascavage, and Pearl Ivey Chandler; and her brothers, Edgar “Ed” Ivey, Jr. and Earl Ivey. A faithful and obedient servant to God and His only son, Jesus Christ, Alene was a long-time member of Englewood United Methodist Church and was very involved with the children’s ministries where she was affectionately known as “Ms. A” in addition to being an Altar Guild. Alene was also a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society, having served as a past Treasurer. She retired from Abbot Laboratories after many years as a group coordinator. A compassionate, selfless, and loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, expecting great great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, Alene will be forever loved and deeply missed. Alene is survived by her sons, Lawrence "Mike" Hagwood (Eden) and William "Bill" Hagwood (Lynn); her grandchildren, Eva Hagwood, Nathan Hagwood, Lauren Mohns (David), Kelly Hagwood, and Ivey Jean Hagwood; her five great grandchildren; her great-great grandchild; her brother, Kenny “Ken” Ivey; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Alene’s life will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S Circle Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Nathan Wittman and Pastor Mike Stamper officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service at Englewood United Methodist Church. The family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff at Brekenridge Retirement Center, the doctors, nurses, and staff of Nash Hospice and Palliative Care, her special friends, Glenda Hortman, Patsy Smith, and Dino and Linda Cerullo, and members of her church family from Englewood UMC for all of the love, care, and support each as expressed to Alene and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Alene’s name to the Children’s Ministries of Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S Circle Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
