Ricky L. Curtis

ROCKY MOUNT - Ricky L. Curtis, age 61, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 18, 2020. He was born in Edgecombe County, NC on December 22, 1958. Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Jerry D. Curtis; and his step-father, Charles R. Jones. Ricky was twin brother of Jerry and co-owner of Smith Florist Rocky Mount. He worked in the floral field for 46 years and served the Rocky Mount and Wilson areas. Ricky was a very compassionate and loving soul and enjoyed helping others when in need. He wrote beautiful and uplifted words in many cards sent to family and friends that needed uplifting. Ricky also enjoyed cooking meals for friends when they had lost a family member and sent many flowers or plants to friends and customers. He loved organizing and cooking meals for the family on holidays and especially Mother's Day and his Mother's birthday. Ricky had a passion for music and was an excellent piano and organ player of which he played for the family's church for years. He also played for several gospel groups and hundreds of funerals for family, friends, and even people who he didn't know when a funeral home would call him for his services. Ricky loved the Lord and was very knowledgeable about his bible and would talk of the Lord often. He enjoyed people and loved to cut up and make people laugh and he would break out singing a song at any given moment. Ricky said when he made it over to the other side, he was gong to say to his Daddy, "Daddy, it's me, I'm home". Ricky is survived by his mother, Joyce S. Curtis Jones of Rocky Mount; his twin brother, Jerry L. Curtis (Tommy Roberts and Donald Webb) of Pinetops; his sister, Retta Barrett (Jackie) of Rocky Mount; his aunts, Sissy Johnson (Michael) of Princeton and Hilda Gray of Rocky Mount; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other aunts and uncles. A Celebration of Ricky's Life will be held on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Melvin McGriff and Pastor Jerry Barbee officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 5:00 PM. Because of COVID-19, the family requests that everyone respect their wishes and wear masks and practice social distancing. The family would like to say a very special thank you to Ricky's caregivers, Brent Barrett, Angie Perry, and Scarlette Langley.   1. Joyce, Jerry, Rhetts and family I am so very sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of your family. Ricky will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time. Love you all!!

  2. I first met Ricky and Jerry in March 1995.A buisness relationship quickly turned into a friendship. There is not one of my customers that I considered a friend, more than Ricky. Now you can finally get some rest and peace.

  3. I had major surgery last week so there was no way I could be there. I remember our conversation when my Aunt Dorothy Brantley passed and I was not able to come up then. I ordered flowers with you and we talked about our lives and memories I will always remember growing up together in church. Ricky and Jerry were six month’s older than me. I know the family is hurting right now but Ricky is not suffering now. we will meet him again some day. RIP Ricky Lee Curtis. You were never out of my heart.
