James Ray Drake

James Ray Drake, 79, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Edgecombe County on June 1, 1933 to the late Johnny and Nannie Pender Drake. James served his country in the U.S. Army. He later drove a bus for Coastal Plain Charter Service for 37 years and was currently employed with Thompson Nursery. James was a hard worker and gave his all to his jobs. He loved the outdoors, cutting grass and working in his yard. Left to cherish his memory, his wife, Nannie Drake of the home; daughter, Helen Drake Rackley and husband Phil of Macclesfield; son, Tim Drake and wife, Connie of Rocky Mount; sister, Catherine Crisp of Nashville; brother, William Justa Drake of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, December 3, 2012 from 7:00-8:30pm at Mill Branch Primitive Baptist Church. A funeral service to remember James will follow the visitation beginning at 8:30pm. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
