Charles Hardy Pollard, age 84, unexpectedly passed away at home on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Charles was born on May 17, 1938, to the late Herman Hardy Pollard and Ora Belle O’Neal Pollard. Charles was preceded in death by Kenneth Pollard, Virginia P. Glover, Kenneth Ray “Pee Wee” and Johnette Strickland, Linda J. Strickland, and Sidney and Mary Brake Strickland.
Charles graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1957 and retired in September 2000 from owner-operator of Rocky Mount Hydraulics and Portable Tool Service. Charles had a great love for old cars, especially Studebakers, and had made many friends all over the world by corresponding about old cars. Charles was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Charles is survived by his wife Frances Strickland Pollard, “his old-car partner”, and they had celebrated 60 years of a happy marriage. Their mottos were “Together Forever” and “It does not matter where you go in life – it’s who you have beside you”. He is also survived by James and Kaye P. Shearin, George and Mary P. Nichols, Rachel Pollard, Billy Glover, Mary S. Medley, Sidney and Becky Strickland, Donnie Strickland, nieces, nephews, and lots of loving friends.
A Celebration of Charles’s Life will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Dion Loving officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Charles’s memory to Oakdale Baptist Church, 13037 US 64 Alt., West Hwy., Rocky Mount, NC 27801.
