William Henry Killebrew

William Henry Killebrew, age 69, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, September 16, 2012. He was born in Rocky Mount on January 5, 1943, son of the late Charles M. Killebrew, Sr. and Dora Grimes Killebrew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Grimes Killebrew. William Henry graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1961 and attended North Carolina State University. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and served in numerous positions. He served as President of West Edgecombe Ruritan Club; was a member of the West Edgecombe Volunteer Fire Department; served on the Edgecombe County Farm Bureau Board, Tar Heel Farm Credit Board, the 4-H Livestock Advisory Board; and a longtime member of the Roanoke and Tar River Gun Club. William Henry leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 45 years, Rell Taylor Killebrew; daughters, Dr. Tracy K. Stillwell and her husband Don and Dr. April K. Matthews and her husband Allen; three grandchildren, Anna Taylor Stillwell, Caroline Rose Stillwell and William Donald Stillwell; his sister, Arlene Killebrew Bunch; brother, Charles M. Killebrew, Jr. and his wife Joyce; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. As a lifetime farmer and outdoorsman, his dedication to hard work and land stewardship was unsurpassed. William Henry was an avid sportsman, enjoying time spent with friends and family hunting at the Big Field and fishing at the Pond and around eastern NC. His greatest joy was his family and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Papa) and brother and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of William Henrys life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Caswell Shaw and Rev. Jim Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McKendree United Methodist Church, c/o Anne Bradley, 1195 Nobles Mill Pond Road, Tarboro NC 27886. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Daniel Crocker, Dr. Jenee Bowman, their staff and the staff of Community Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care and support shown to William Henry.
