William “Billy” Jennings Medley

William “Billy” Jennings Medley, 83, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013. Born in Edgecombe County on June 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Luther and Lizzy Mae Medley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Bobby, Jack, and Clarence; one sister, Marie; daughter-in-law, Susan, and his self-adopted, mother, Granny Brown. Billy worked for Sun Gas and later with Daughtridge Gas Oil for fourteen years where he served as Vice President. He was the founder of Transpo Gas Services in the late 1970s where he worked until his retirement. He was dedicated to his family and was always ready to lend a helping hand to his friends. When he couldnt be found at work, you could always find “Wild Bill” on his backhoe. Billy never met a stranger and would always be remembered for his generosity to those he loved. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend. He was a “Mans Man” in its true sense. Billy was a devoted servant to the Lord in his own special way with his self-less service to his neighbors. He will truly be missed by all that knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jacquelyn Medley; sons, Britt Medley and wife, Paula, Bryan Medley and wife, Sandra, and Tony Medley all of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Brandi, Carson, Gary, Miranda, Brittany, Angela, and Christy; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Johnathan, Ashley, Lauren Grace, Meylana, Cohen, Claire, and Jackson. The family will receive friends, Sunday, November, 3, 2013 from 7:00-8:30pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A service to remember Billy will be held at 11:00am Monday, November 4, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Joe Price officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
