Walter “Earl” McCall, Sr.

June 30, 1951 ~ December 10, 2019

ROCKY MOUNT - Walter "Earl" McCall, Sr., age 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Born in Jessup, GA on June 30, 1951, he was the son of the late Earl Cashman McCall and Mary Todd McCall. Throughout his life, Earl always displayed exceptional athleticism. Starting from an early age he was involved with a variety of sports, be it on a baseball diamond, a basketball court, or enjoying 18 rounds of golf. As he grew older, he became incredibly fond of shooting skeet in which he would also excel at. Earl spent over half his life helping the hearing impaired. Through his business Avada Hearing Care, of which he was one of the founders and ran for over 48 years, his compassion for those with hearing loss grew from a few to a vast many covering several states. His most cherished reward was simply the ability in helping others hear and better understand their loved ones for the first time. Although being blessed with the gift of helping others was dear to Earl, his love and commitment to his family was paramount and always first, especially when it came to his granddaughters, Olivia Grace and Ashton. Everything about his life was devoted to being the loving husband, father, and grandfather of which he was and to being a true friend to many, of which he will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Earl leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 32 years, Caroline Johnson McCall; and son, Walter "Earl" McCall, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Wilson. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ashton and Olivia McCall; sister, Patti McCall Jones and husband, David, of Salisbury; and many cousins. A Celebration of Earl's Life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with David Jones officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Caroline, Earl and family, I was so sad to learn of Earl’s passing. Though I only met Earl in person a few times, I felt like I knew him from the many long talks Jr. and I have had over the last several years. Hoping the days and months ahead will bring you peace as you adjust to a new normal. God bless the Mccall’s. Love, Ted

  2. Forgetting what is behind and pressing toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in CHRIST Jesus. Love and prayers, Chuck Manning and Hope White Manning

  3. Caroline and Earl, it deeply saddens us to have lost such a good man. Earl will be missed by all, but his memory will live on in us forever. I first met Earl about 50 years ago when we both were teenagers. During many of those years, we were as close as any two brothers. For over 25 years we spoke nearly every weekday sharing our successes and challenges. As business partners, I learned Earl hated losing, even more than he enjoyed winning; he was one of the most competitive people I’ve ever known. I was fortunate enough to spend time with Earl outside of the workplace. He had a unique perspective on many things and could (and would) lighten any situation with laughter. He was so proud of his family and spoke of them often. Earl was focused on developing others by investing in their future. Countless people who he touched can thank him for their careers. Earl taught us all how to grow old with dignity, humor and kindness – and when the Good Lord finally called, how to meet Him with courage and joy in the promise of what lies ahead. I count myself lucky that our paths crossed.

  4. Caroline I am so sorry for your loss of Earl. My deepest sympathies go out to you. Will keep you in my prayers. Life will change but you will get through this. You are a strong, remarkable woman.

  5. Our hearts are heavy with grief. We are so very sorry for your loss. May God continue to wrap his loving arms around you and your family during this difficult time and know that we are keeping you all in our hearts. Honey and Savannah Burford Cookeville,TN

  6. What an Indescribable loss of one of the Grandfathers and Pioneers of Hearing Care. Anyone who knew Earl knew he was a Great Man. He was a Very Passionate Wonderful and Irreplaceable, a True Hearing Icon! With a insurmountable amount of wonderful qualities, and the equal amount of contribution toward Humanity and Well being his work and efforts provided his life and contribution should be celebrated. If there would be someone who would be deserving of an award for his contributions to the hearing Impaired it would be Walter Earl McCall, Sr. He was intrinsic in the development of serving the Hearing Impaired and accessibility to Quality Hearing Healthcare.
