Mrs. Violet Edith Thompson Raynor, age 87, of Rocky Mount, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, March 19, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 18, 1922 in Surry County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Etta Stonestreet Thompson. She was married to the late Herbert L. Raynor, who died in 1983. She was a homemaker and worked for Harris Teeter as a product demonstrator. She was a devoted member of Gospel Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved the Lord and all her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Raynor leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Dianna R. Short and her husband, Johnny, of Grifton, NC, and Joette R. Williams and her husband, Wayne, of Rocky Mount, NC; two sons, Bill Raynor and his wife, B.J., of Nashville, NC, and Larry Raynor and his wife, Cindi, of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Helen Jackson of Raleigh, NC, and Frances Merkel and her husband, Gordon, of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren, Sonya S. Griffin and her husband, Leslie, of Kinston, NC, Michael Raynor of Elm City, NC, Shaun Raynor and his wife, Katie, of Wilmington, NC, Andrew Raynor and his wife, Ashley, of Wilson, NC, Terresa Taylor and her husband, David, of Rocky Mount, NC, and Jason Williams and his wife, Jennifer, of Rocky Mount, NC; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Rachel Marie Griffin, Joshua Raynor, Matthew Raynor, Cole Raynor, Sadie Raynor, Emily Raynor, Abigail Raynor, Elizabeth Raynor, Anna Raynor, Nathan Raynor, Andrew Taylor, Caroline Taylor, and Hayden Williams.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Herbert David Raynor; a grandson, Timothy W. Short, and two brothers, Joseph A. Thompson and Billy Jack Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 22, 2010 in the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. Rev. Andrew Raynor and Rev. David L. Proctor, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Joette Williams, 2620 Temperance Hall Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.
