Verree Stroud Pollock

ROCKY MOUNT – Verree Stroud Pollock, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February  16, 2025.  Born in Emanuel County, GA on March 31, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Felmer Stroud and Rhobie Rayford Stroud.  She is also predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Irvin Pollock; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Oerman.

Verree lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and a heart for others. She found joy in the simple beauty of God’s creation—whether tending to her vegetable and flower garden or casting a line into the water. The outdoors was her sanctuary, a place where she felt closest to the Lord.

But her greatest calling was sharing the Gospel. Verree’s heart for missions took her to places near and far, where she spread the message of hope and salvation. At home, Verree’s ministry continued. She opened her doors and her heart to all. She led Bible studies and prayer groups, and for many years, she faithfully taught Sunday school.  Her warm hugs and gentle spirit made everyone feel loved and welcome. She had a way of seeing people—truly seeing them—and making sure they knew they mattered.

Verree was more than a friend; she was a prayer warrior, a listening ear, and a source of comfort to those facing life’s hardest moments. She stood in the gap for others, offering encouragement, wisdom, and unwavering support. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about—it was how she strived to live.

Above all, Verree cherished her family. They were her pride and joy, and her love for them was evident. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and selfless love—a life well-lived, and an example for all who knew her.

Though we grieve her absence, we rejoice in knowing that Verree has heard the words she longed for most:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Her work here is finished, but her impact will live on in the lives she touched and the hearts she changed.

Verree is survived by her daughters, Melinda Pollock and Cheryl Oerman (Chuck); her sons, Martin “Marty” Pollock (Ann) and Timothy “Tim” Pollock; daughter-in-law, Diane “Dee” Pollock; her grandchildren, Zachary Oerman (Heather) and his children, Brandon and Ashley; Ryan Wise and his children, Olive, Zander, Myla and Vivienne; Justin Pollock (Joy) and their children, Jackson, Chase, Easton, Brooklyn and Annie; Carrie Oerman; Brett Pollock; Lisa Oerman; Kristin Dunn (Shane) and their children, Eisley and Samson; and Michael Pollock (Delaney) and their son, Calvin; and her sister, Gloria Davis.   She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many close friends and closer “adopted” children and family, including a daughter of the heart, Esther Jacques.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Bridget Norton for her love and dedicated caregiving to Verree through the years.

A Celebration of Verree’s Life will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Dennis Darville and Dr. Benjamin Quinn officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM following to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

Burial of cremains will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Aiken Memorial Gardens, 1523 Edgefield Hwy, Aiken, SC 29801, with Rev. Jimmy Hanf officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Verree’s memory to Holly Grove Baptist Church, 1640 Holly Road, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
