Thomas “Tommy” William Overton

ROCKY MOUNT - Thomas "Tommy" William Overton, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018 surrounded by his wife and family by his bedside. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on November 19, 1938, he was the son of the late William Henry Overton, mother, June Swigert Overton, and stepmother, Elda Mae Overton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Daniel Overton of Texas; and granddaughter, Melissa Ann Everette of Rocky Mount. Tommy was a member of Northside Community Church for over 15 years until his health would not let him go anymore. We will miss "Pops" not being able to get a word in when trying to talk, that was what he was famous for he loved to talk. He also loved working on his old junk cars and trucks he would go buy and fix-up. Tommy retired from TextileLease Corp. then he later went back to work and returned to automotive interior distributors. Tommy was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and "Pops" to all that knew him and he will be deeply missed by all. Tommy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Patterson Overton; two sons, Randy Overton and wife, Karen, of Battleboro and Michael Overton and wife, Cathy, of Battleboro; one daughter, MaryAnn Gotowala of Clayton. He is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel Overton, Lainey Overton, Austin Overton, Ryan Overton, Ashley Overton, Kristy Radford, Jenna Gotowala, Hope Gotowala, Talon Gotowala; great-grandchildren, Christopher Tinder, Isaac Winstead, and Thomas Valentine; and his best friend, Blondie, his dog. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Mark Pridgen and Clay Leonard officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
