ROCKY MOUNT – Steven “Steve” Douglas Cobb, age 73, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Born in New Hanover County, NC on August 18, 1950, he was the son of the late Douglas McDonald Cobb and Edwina Stanfield Cobb. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Hale Cobb.
Steve was a 1969 graduate of West Edgecombe High School and was employed with the City of Rocky Mount as a lineman for 28 years. He accepted Christ at an early age. Steve loved his family, his vacation home at Gaston Lake and his lake friends, fishing, boating, hunting, riding horses, watching NASCAR races and classic car auctions, DUKE basketball; and his canine companions, Charlie and Sassy.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Candy Cobb; his grandson, Michael Tyson; his step-grandson, Jake Harper; his sister, Shirley Joyner and husband, Clark; his niece, Chrissy Rhodes and husband, Bruce; his great-nephew, Tanner Rhodes; his aunt, Janice Barfield; his uncle, Robert Stanfield; his step-daughters, Tambre Thomas and husband, Gerald, and Kristy Harper; his step-sons, Duane Williams and wife, Ekaterina, and John Williams and wife, Brandy; his son-in-law, Wade Harper; his brother-in-law, Andrew Hale and wife, Bonnie; and a host of other step-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Alford Tyson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
