Ruth McCullers Morgan

August 9, 1907 ~ March 25, 2011

Ruth McCullers Morgan, centenarian, age 103, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25, 2011. Born on August 09, 1907 in Calhoun County, Alabama, Ruth was the second youngest of 11 children belonging to James and Emma McCullers. She attended college to become a teacher but shortly changed her profession to become a legal secretary. She worked in several law firms and while working in New Bern, she met the love of her life, "L.P." Morgan and they were married in 1932. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Rocky Mount. Mrs. Morgan was the last of her generation. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, L.P. Morgan in 1961; her step-son, Val Morgan who served in World War II; her parents, and ten brothers and sisters. She will be remembered by her many friends and several nieces and nephews that she leaves behind. She has been a member of First Baptist Church for over 77 years and there she developed her extended family. Her friendships were deep and long lasting due to her caring nature. When asked why she has lived so long, she said, "The Lord will take me when he is ready to take me. I am going to heaven when the Lord decides he wants me there." A "Going Home" service to celebrate Ruth Morgan's life will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, March 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Grisham and Rev. Larry Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount NC 27804. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Spring Arbor and especially Sue Jefferys and Dennis Bunn for their loving care and support shown to Mrs. Morgan during her stay. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC. 1. I grew up in Suffolk, Va. & now live in Raleigh & Kitty Hawk. When traveling back & forth, I would stop in Rocky Mount to see Aunt Ruth & take her candy, which she loved. I was very sad today to stop, only to find out she had passed away. Uncle L.P. & my grandfather were brothers, so she was my great aunt (by marriage.) The last few years she didn’t always know me, but she always thanked me for visiting & for the candy (which she always immediately sampled..especially if it was chocolate!) She was always gracious, kind & loving. I loved her & I’ll miss her!
