Russell Gordon Greene

NASHVILLE - Russell Gordon Greene, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Born in Nash County on July 8, 1934 he was the son of the late Ernest Gordon Greene and Clela May Greene. He was also preceded in death by daughters, Marilyn Luper and Beverly Luper Nash and beloved cat, Sonny. Russell worked for John Umstead Mental Hospital, Phillips Fibers and Rocky Mount Mills and later retired from Nash General Hospital. He was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church. He leaves behind his loving wife of 10 years, Carolyn Geaniton Greene; children, Wanda Greene Price and husband Randy of Wilson, Dennis Greene and wife Bonnie of Nashville, Bonita Greene Barlow of Sharpsburg, Brian Nash of Nashville, Fran Luper Gschwind and husband Darryl of Nashville, Denise Luper Franz of Nashville, Emily Ballard Harrell and husband Tyler of Nashville, Cline Ballard of Tarboro; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his sisters, Edna Mae Spain and Joyce Morris and husband Percy; and brother, Bobby Greene and wife Ann. A funeral service to remember Russell will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Blake Dempsey officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Creek Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund, 1238 Rock Creek Drive, Nashville NC 27856.
