Ronald "Ron" Edwin Williamson

Wilmington – Ronald “Ron” Edwin Williamson, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on March 20, 1941, he was the son of the late Isaac Hubert Williamson and Martha Magnolia Deal Williamson.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Edwin Williamson, Jr. and his brothers, Joseph “Garland” Williamson and Roland Everette Williamson.

A man of great faith, Ronald or “Ron” was a former long-time member of Cresset Baptist Church in Durham.  He dedicated his life to public service, making a career for himself in water and wastewater services working for the Town of Tarboro, Chapel Hill, and the Orange County Water and Sewer Authority over a span of 35 years until his retirement.  Following his retirement, Ron enjoyed assisting children in his neighborhood with homeschooling and additionally starting with his beloved grandchildren, babysitting for family, friends, his church family, and many others which he cherished every moment spent.  A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Ronald will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Winstead Williamson; his daughters, Ronda Williamson Mitchum (Thomas) and Renee Williamson Creech; his grandchildren, Michaela Wells and Gabriel Wells; his great granddaughter, Willow Atkins; his sister, Delores Ann Williamson Ellis (Danny); his brothers, James “Jimmy” Allen Williamson (Sharron) and Isaac “Hubert” Williamson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and good friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ronald’s life will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Dr. James Baggett officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
