Robert "Bobby" Gene Clark, 79 died Saturday, October 30, 2010. He was born in Nash County August 17, 1931 to the late Eddie Stove and Annie Ladd Clark. Bobby was the last survivor of eight children. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert G. Clark, Eddie L. Clark, Melvin L. Clark, and four sisters: Annie M. Dugger, Betty Clark Lewis, Minnie Pearl Edwards,
and Clara M. Joyner.
Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war. Upon his return home, he began a career with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He started in the metal bridge department and worked in various positions. Bobby retired in August 31, 1987, as the Superviser of the Metal Bridge Department in Rocky Mount, with over 35 years of hard, dedicated service . He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for over 55 years until it's closing. His new church home and family was West Haven Presbyterian, where he attended each Sunday, enjoying the sermons of Rev. Connie Button.
He is survived by his loving, dedicated and precious wife of 52 years Audrey Pair Clark; two children whom he dearly loved, his son, Gregory Ladd Clark and wife Lisa of Rocky Mount, and his daughter, Ellen Clark Bailey and husband, Wayne of Rocky Mount; three grandsons, whom he was so proud of and loved so much, Zackary Ladd Clark, Tyler Woodfield Clark and Seth Alexander Bailey; step grandsons, Todd and John Bailey of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A very special thanks over the years to Dr. Doug Slater and staff, Dr. Shiver, and the caring, compassionate staff of the 5th floor at Nash General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev Connie Button officiating. Entombment will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM on Tuesday evening, November 2, 2010, at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, and other times, the family home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to West Haven Presbyterian Church, 1001 West Haven Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
