Richard C. Marks

ROCKY MOUNT-Richard C. Marks, resident of Berlin, New Jersey and former resident of Rocky Mount, passed away January 6, 2011 at the age of 71, following a 6 year battle with renal failure. Born on October 27, 1939, Richard grew up in Rocky Mount. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Beatrice Marks. He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in the class of 1958 and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and an active member of the Rocky Mount Jaycees. He grew up in the tire business at Marks Bros. Tire Recapping. Richard was a sales manager at Marks Bros. prior to accepting a position with Michelin Tire Corporation in 1967. He was assigned to Birmingham, Alabama, promoted to District Manager in 1970 and transferred to Kansas City, Kansas; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Little Rock, Arkansas and Nashville, Tennessee. After retiring from Michelin after 32 years of service, he resided in his dream home with his wife on Old Hickory Lake to pursue their love of fishing. When his health declined, he and his wife of 13 years moved back to New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Marks of Berlin, NJ; a son, Richard Brent Marks; a grandson Richard Anthony Marks; a granddaughter, Macia Marie Marks all of Little Rock, Arkansas; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Marks McDonald and William McDonald of Rocky Mount. A celebration of his life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Vestibule of the church and other times at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, 3021 Ridgecrest Drive in Rocky Mount. A private interment was held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Pineview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
