Rev. Grady Courtland Dickens, Sr.

NASHVILLE - Rev. Grady Courtland Dickens, Sr., age 95, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 17, 2022. Born in Halifax County, NC on November 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Jacob Augustus Dickens and Sue Vaughan Dickens. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Hedgepeth Dickens; his daughter, Dianne Dickens Griffin; his granddaughter, Allison Dickens Brayton; five brothers; and seven sisters. He pastored several churches: Flint Hill Baptist Church in Bedford, VA, Bonlee Baptist Church in Bonlee, NC, Union Hill Baptist Church, Clemmons, NC, Dortches Baptist Church, Dortches, NC, Rural Hall Baptist Church, Rural Hall, NC, and retired from Providence Baptist Church, Holly Ridge, NC. He also served numerous interim pastorates throughout eastern North Carolina. Grady served in the US Army. Grady is survived by his wife of 60 years, Millicent "Millie" Beal Dickens; his sons, Grady "Courtland" Dickens, Jr., of Rocky Mount and Larry G. Dickens and wife, Gail, of Buies Creek; his daughters, Janice White Smith and husband, Bruce, of Dortches, and Becky Dickens Westcott and husband, Matt, of Rolesville; his 16 grandchildren; his 17 great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, George Griffin of Dortches; his sister, Hazel Dickens Hasty; his sister-in-law, Thelma Dickens; numerous nieces and nephews; and the living Hedgepeth family. A Funeral Service to celebrate Grady's life will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Preston R. Wells officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Family Life Center of Dortches Baptist Church.
