Rev. Douglas W. Billups

Rocky Mount- Rev. Douglas Winfried Billups, age 78, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Born in Halifax County, NC on October 30, 1944, he was the son of the late Willie Thomas Billups and Pattie Wells Billups. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Patricia Ann Billups Keeter and Emily Jeanette Billups Boone. Rev. Billups had a thirty-three year long career with Halifax Electric Membership Corporation in Enfield, NC. Following his retirement from HEMC, he answered a calling into ministry where he served as Pastor to York Chapel United Methodist Church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Seaboard United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Westhaven Presbyterian Church, and Macclesfield Presbyterian Church. Upon his retirement from ministry, Rev. Billups served as a faithful member of Enfield United Methodist Church.In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman who could often be found fishing with his son on various lakes in various locations. He was also a keen gardener and a master tinkerer who could fix and/or build just about anything. Rev. Billups is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Katherine Moore Billups; his son, Christopher Douglas Billups (Jamie); his daughter, Kimberly Billups Taylor (Jamie); his grandchildren, Wil Taylor, Erin Taylor, and Greyson Billups; his step-grandchildren, Cody Joyner, Emily Stroud, and Sidney Langley; his sisters Billie Vern Billups Proctor and Annie Lou Billups Hight; his brother Thomas Wayne Billups (Minnie); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Rev. Billups’s life will be held on September 24, 2023, at 4:00 pm at Enfield United Methodist Church, 314 US-4, Enfield, NC 27823, with Dr. Steven Bradley officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm prior to the service at Enfield United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at a later date.   2. Catherine, Chris and Kim, I have nothing but great memories of Doug. When mom and I would come to Scotland Beck it was always a highlight for Catherine and Doug to come over. So sorry for your loss, but the heavens are rejoicing. Love you all much. Cousin Robin Rutherford

  3. I attended course of study at Duke with Doug and he was a fine Christian man. A true disciple of Christ !! He always was laughing and smiling and happy at school!! My prayers are with his family. I know that Doug is with our Lord whom he loved and served so well and as Christian’s we never have to say goodbye. We get to say see you later!!
