Ralph Watson Wallace

Rocky Mount - Ralph Watson Wallace, 92, died on July 14, 2012 surrounded by his family following a short illness. He was born in Raleigh, NC, on August 27, 1919 to John William Wallace and Jannie Cherry. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Rowland Wallace and siblings, Lewis, William and Julia. Ralph honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII from July 9, 1941 to August 2, 1945. He was involved in the invasion of Tinian and Saipan for which his unit received a presidential citation. Ralph was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. After employment with American Optical he owned and operated Rocky Mount Opticians from 1960 until his retirement in 1989. Ralph enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 10 years, Blanche Quigley Wallace; son, Ralph Wallace, Jr., (Judy); two sisters, Clara Ellington and Ruth Perry; grandchildren, Brent Wallace (Sarah), Ashley Wallace; step grandchildren, Dana Severini (Billy), Gina Fryar; stepson, Sam Quigley (Carolyn); step grandchildren, Jay Quigley (Amy), Kelly Smith (Dewayne); numerous great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 11270 East NC 97, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service from 1:30-2:45pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm at the funeral home with Rev. Kathy Jo Mitchell and Dr. Billy Seate officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
