Ralph Clifton Griffin

Ralph Clifton Griffin, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Born in Nash County on March 8, 1934, he was the son of the late Cicero Thomas Griffin, Sr. and Della Frances Jones Griffin. He was also preceded in death by his dear wife, Lucrecia House Griffin. Ralph served as an Army Ranger in the 82d Air Borne Division and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was awarded the national defense medal, good conduct medal and parachutist badge. His years of work as a mechanic took him to O'Boyle Trucking, Virginia, and Comer Oil, North Carolina. He served as terminal managers with Kenan Transport, Eagle Transport and Wendell Trucking, all of Virginia. He began his career as a mechanic with Tom Bailey Motors in Rocky Mount, NC. His greatest accomplishments were his marriage of forty-five years, three children and five grandchildren. Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons: Randy Griffin and his wife, Ginger of Zebulon, NC; Neil Griffin of Dover, DE; and Scott Griffin and his wife, Bonnie of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Cortney Griffin Salmon and her husband, Chris of Richmond, VA; Eric Griffin and Barry Griffin of Rocky Mount, NC; and Clay Cole and Jacob Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA. Ralph is also survived by one brother, Cicero ("Jr.") Griffin and his wife, Irma Jean of Rocky Mount, NC and one sister, Jewel Pullen and her husband, Kenneth of Nashville, NC. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014, at 2:00 pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Bill Harper officiating.
