BATTLEBORO - Rachel Adkins Williams, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on June 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ervmond Lee Adkins, Sr. and Mabel Etheridge Adkins; her brother, Ervmond Lee "EL" Adkins, Jr.; and her sister, Matilda Adkins Butts.
Rachel and Jimmy were owners of Whitakers Food Center for over 20 years. She was a dedicated member of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Whitakers. Rachel enjoyed traveling and going to casinos playing the slot machines with family and friends. She touched the lives of so many people and will always be remembered with love and kindness. Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Most of all, she was a most wonderful friend, and her heart and spirit will forever be remembered.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jimmy Williams; her daughter, Jamie Williams Ethridge and fianc, Ken Oliver of Battleboro; her son, Jim Williams and wife, Wendy of Wilmington; her grandson, who was the apple of her eye, Hudson Williams; her nieces, Pasty Miller, Angela Adkins, Leigh Whitley, and Scottie Daughtridge; and her loyal fur baby, Layla, whom she loved dearly.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Rachel's life will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Dennis Gregory officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

I only known Ms. Rachel for 4 short years but I enjoyed seeing her at church and hearing stories about her family. She welcomed me to the church when I first came like I had been there forever. I will miss her and her smile so much. I know that she is at peace and is singing in heavens choir.
I loved Rachael and all her family very much. I was privileged to service her for as her stylist for about 30 years. As stylist we get very close to our clients. Also I serviced many in her family and love them all. We have shared so many life experiences, laughter, sorrow, secrets and more. My prayers will always be with her family and love ones.
My sympathies to Rachel’s entire family. I have many fond memories of her during the many years she worked for my parents at Taylor’s Cleaners. I’m sure she will be missed by all who knew and loved her…….prayers for GOD’s peace during this difficult time.
