Paul Sherwood Rooks

Paul "Sherwood" Rooks, 80, was lovingly welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Saviour on February 5, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Carol Jones. Sherwood was born in Duplin County on September 7, 1929, son of the late Thomas Paul and Alice Cora Rooks. Sherwood was a loyal and dedicated member of Falls Road Baptist Church for 42 years. He leaves behind his legacy of love to his daughters, Gwendolyn Carol Porter and husband Joseph, Kathy Angela Casey and husband Morgan, Eva Germaine Dunn and husband Mike; grandchildren, Alicia Carol, Joseph Sherwood Eugene, Lorrin Elizabeth Porter, Meridith Carol, Hillary Morgan Casey, Benjamin Paul Dunn; and great-grandson, Jordan Wesley Porter. Sherwood will also be remembered by his loving and cherished sisters, Doris Crawford of Garner, NC; Christine Dickens and husband Bill of Virginia Beach, VA; Bonnie O'Neal of Salem, NC and his loving and cherished brothers, Lawrence Rooks and wife, Margaret of Grafton, VA; Thomas Rooks and wife, Christine of Garner, NC; and Gene Rooks and wife, Donnye of Smithfield, NC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 - 8:00pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home. A funeral service to celebrate Sherwood's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Harduk officiating.
