Elm City – Patrick “Chance” Emerson, age 41, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.  Born in Nash County, NC on June 4, 1984, he was the son of the late Wendy Jo Bales Emerson.

Known for his contagious smile, love for his family and friends, and ability to befriend everyone he met, nobody was a stranger to Chance for very long.  He spent 23 years working in construction along with a 2-year career in car sales.  Outside of work, Chance enjoyed laughing, joking, fishing, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.  Chance will be deeply missed by all who knew him and will always be remembered for his energy and loving spirit, Arms Wide Open!

Chance is survived by his daughters, Kayleigh Bakerman (Gavin) & Jaclynn Wicker; his father, Ralph Waldo Emerson (Susan); his brothers, Tracey Scott Pridgen (Kelli), Kristopher Brent Pridgen (Tammy), and Andrew Thomas Neville, III (April); and many extended family members and good friends.

A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Chance’s life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Mark Winstead officiating.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

The family would like to thank all their friends and family who called and offered their words of kindness, compassion and love. Chance loved you all.

  1. Chance was always a happy little boy, always smiling. I used to keep small kids and he was one of them, 39 years ago. Had the pleasure of talking to him last month, glad I got the chance to hear him say I love you and Tommy. Rest in peace.
