ROCKY MOUNT - Patricia Marks McDonald, age 76, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. Born in Richmond, VA on February 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hunter Marks and Beatrice Etoile Evans Marks. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Cecil Marks.
A woman of great faith and blessed with an abundance of compassion, Patricia was a longtime member of Englewood Baptist Church, a member of the Robert Beaman Sunday School Class, and an Alumni of the XI Delta Lambda Sorority. A registered nurse all of her life, she retired from the Developmental Evaluation Center after many years. Patricia emulated her mother in every aspect of her life and thus had a deep appreciation for all of God's creations, which she demonstrated through her love for gardening and her rescue efforts of everything and anything from animals to flowers. Another trait passed from mother to daughter was her baking skills. She was well known for her cakes and cream puffs that would always keep folks coming back for seconds. She had a fondness for collecting antique dolls. Patricia especially enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility of visiting the family beach home at Salter Path and traveling by cruise ship all over the world. She had a talent for photography and scrapbooking, especially following celebrations of life events for family and friends she held dear to her heart, holidays, or for any reason to commemorate or create a lasting memory. The glue that bounded her family together, she was always exceedingly involved and invested in her children and grandchildren's successes and adventures. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend, Patricia will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
Patricia is survived by her husband, William Battle McDonald; her son, Will McDonald (Taragh) of Eureka, CA; her daughter, Ann Creech (Bryan) of Erwin, TN; her grandchildren, Jonah, Jordan, and Faith Ann Creech; her nephew, Brent Marks; and her fur-baby Beaux.

Bill and family, I will always remember Pat’s kindness to others and the smile she had, no matter what. We all enjoyed the annual Nurse’s reunions so much–such an important time to catch up and share our life experiences since our graduation. You and Pat shared a wonderful life together, through sickness and in health, and so enjoyed the many cruise trips together. What a wonderful way to share the retirement years together. We will miss her, and I will treasure the humor you always brought to our get-togethers. Please know we all grieve with you and will miss Pat. All of my best thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, as it is indeed such a difficult time. As I myself have recently had three heart procedures, I cannot travel yet, but I will be with you in thought and soul. Much love to all of you, Linda Wilkerson (P.S. Also, remembering her delicious carrot cakes!)
I was so sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. Pat was truly a Bright Shining Star. Her smile reflected the love and compassion she had in her heart for her family and friends and above all the love she had for Jesus. Bill, please know that I am praying for you and your family at this time. Pat will truly be missed by ALL that knew and loved her. Love in Christ, Sarita Phillips
