Rocky Mount – Ollie Mae Williamson Briggs, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.  Born in Granville County, NC on May 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lex Williamson and Magdalene Lynette Klapp Williamson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lowe Briggs and her two siblings.

Raised in Henderson where she attended school, Ollie Mae worked and retired from Sears as a head cashier.  Following her retirement, she volunteered her time working inside the gift store inside Nash General Hospital.  A woman of great faith, Ollie Mae was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and was member of the church choir.  She loved to sing and at 95 years of age was still singing everyday for her neighbors at Autumn Care nursing home.  A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend to many, Ollie Mae will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Ollie Mae is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” Briggs Norville (Terry) of Rocky Mount and Lisa Briggs Ward (Steve) of Battleboro; her grandchildren, Grayson Norville Blake (Brooks) of Winterville, Amanda Norville of Jacksonville, Matthew Ward (Lauren) of Rocky Mount, and Adam Ward (Carey) of Wilson; her great grandchildren, Jackson Rattew, Cannon Ward, Mixon Ward, James Ward, and Molly Ward; and many extended family members and dearest friends.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ollie Mae’s life will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Parker Phillips officiating.  A Private Family Burial will be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service as well as following the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Autumn Care and Spring Arbor for the care and love they gave to Ollie Mae during the past 11 years.

Flowers will be welcomed or memorials may be made in Ollie Mae’s memory to a charity of one’s choosing.

  1. Jackie and Lisa, I know your hearts are breaking with the passing of your mother. You both have been dedicated and amazing daughters throughout the difficult days of her dementia. She was so proud of you both, as well as, your father.
    I know you rejoice that she is now in her Heavenly home and reunited with your father Jerry. More importantly she is now of sound and complete mind.
    Ollie Mae lived a long love filled life of family, friends, grandchildren, neighbors, church and choir friends, and customers at Sears.
    I pray for each of you in the difficult days ahead for strength, guidance, and comfort. Rest assured that others care for you and our Heavenly Father loves you
