Oleta Jean Leggett Littrell

On February 3, 2010, Oleta Jean Leggett Littrell, 85, passed away in Alabaster, Alabama. Jean, known to family and friends as Teeny, was born in Rocky Mount, NC on September 24, 1924 to the late Clarence Edwin Leggett and Alice Swanson Leggett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Howard Littrell, Jr. , son Herbert Edwin Littrell, sisters Louise, Christine, Ruth and Grace. Jean is survived by Wayne Lee Littrell and wife, Lyn of Alabaster, Alabama and Robert Leggett Littrell and wife, Weslie of Cary, NC; daughter-in-law Deb Littrell of Orville, California; grandchildren Liz and Ben Littrell of Alabaster; sister Phyllis Leggett Jacobs of Rocky Mount and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Jean graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1942, and then attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (now UNC-G). After returning to Rocky Mount, she was employed many years at City Industrial Bank. After the loss of her husband, she joined the U.S. Postal Service and served until her retirement, after which she moved to Raleigh to be near her 3 sons. In 2003, Jean moved to live with her son and grandchildren in Alabaster, Alabama, where she lived for several years. After her health declined, she resided at Shelby Ridge Rehab Center in Alabaster, where she was cared for by the loving and gracious staff. The family also appreciates the care she was given at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. The Littrells were devoted members of First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount where Jean participated as a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother and officer of the Women's Circles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Littrell-Thorpe scholarship at First Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount or to the charity of choice. A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
