Odell Manning Coggins

ROCKY MOUNT – Odell Manning Coggins, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on July 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Eli Manning and Emma Leeora Burgess Manning.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gordon McDonald Coggins, Sr.; her son, Stephen Odell Coggins; and her siblings, Elizabeth Lee Manning Hyde, Donnie Earl Manning, Vivian Lucille Manning Bagg, Emma Ruth Manning Morin, Lizzie Mae Manning Joyner, Edith Myrlean Manning Abernethy, and Arthur Ray Manning.

Odell is survived by her sons, Gordon McDonald Coggins, Jr, and wife, Annette, Dennis Ruffin Coggins and wife, Kay; her daughters, Deborah Coggins Gammon and husband, Barry and Barbara Coggins Hicks and husband, Al; her daughter-in-law, Rita Coggins; her grandchildren, Brian Gammon (Judy), Brandon Gammon, Jason Coggins (Kathy), Stephanie Coggins Avett (Ryan), Christie Coggins DeBruhl (Jay), Amanda Coggins Smith, (Tim), Emily Coggins Nordby (Brian), Al Hicks, IV (Jessica), Benfield Hicks (Katie), Alison Coggins Arcila (Leon), Kathryn Hicks Bowen (Jackson), and Westray Hicks (Sidney); her 23 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Juanita Grace Manning Burnette and Betty Ann Manning Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Odell’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC  27804 with Rev. Les Carpenter and Rev. Daniel Cenci officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in in the Commons Area of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Odell’s memory to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC  27804.
