Milton James Lee

Milton J. Lee passed away on February 24, 2012. He was born in Faison, NC on May 1, 1919 to Matthew Lee and Ida Boone Lee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Bass Lee; brothers, Deems, Raymond, and Leslie Lee, and sister, Margaret Armstrong Gurganus. Milton received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army having served from 1940 until 1945 in the North African Theater and the European Theater. He participated in battles of the Sicilian Campaign and Italian Campaign. He was awarded two (2) Bronze Service Stars, three (3) Oversea Service Bars, American Defense Service Ribbon, and Good Conduct Ribbon. Upon his return to the U.S., he began a career of many years as an electrician at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia. Having started their married life in Rocky Mount, he and Becky moved back to Rocky Mount in 1999 following his retirement. He is survived by nieces; Jackie Hamby (Raleigh), Pam Stuart (Salisbury), nephews; Tommy Armstrong (San Diego), Stanley Lee (Salisbury), and Raymond Lee (Stantonsburg). He is also survived by nieces of his wife; Frankie Patterson (Dunn), Dianne West (Roseboro), Margaret Ann Bass (Rocky Mount), and other nieces and nephews residing in the area. There will be a Military Graveside Service on Tuesday, February 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount. Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to any Veterans' Associations of America. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
