Mrs. Mildred Batchelor Cogdell, age 81, of Nashville, NC, has died. She had been in poor health for several months.
She passed from this life at her home on Thursday, August 5, 2010, where she was cared for by her devoted daughters. She will be missed, but her loving spirit and example will be remembered by all.
Born December 26, 1928 in Pender County, she was a daughter of loving parents, the late Oris Viander and Viola Mae Sholar Batchelor. She was married to the late Joseph Bonnie Cogdell, who died March 19, 2007, and they were blessed with four children, two daughters and two sons.
Sister Cogdell was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was very active in the Rocky Mount Branch, serving as Primary President and Relief Society President. She also served in the Goldsboro Stake Primary Presidency and as Stake Camp Director in the Raleigh Stake. She also served a two and a half year mission, along with her husband, at the Washington, DC Temple from 1983 to 1986.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Cogdell Page and her husband, Michael, of Sharpsburg, NC, and Karen Cogdell Greethurst and her husband, Michael, of Enid, OK; her son, Haywood Cogdell and his wife, Brenda, of Nashville, NC; sister, Eleanor Batchelor Harper, of Albertson, NC; brother, Kenneth Batchelor and his wife, June, of Carrollton, GA; sister-in-law, Judy Batchelor of Wilson; nine grandchildren, Mark Cogdell of Wilmington, NC, Wesley Cogdell of Nashville, NC, Eric Page and his wife, Crystal, of Nashville, NC, David Page and his wife, Kassy, of Fort Riley, KS, Morgan Bobbitt and her husband, Jonathan, of Rocky Mount, NC, Katie Page of Sharpsburg, NC, Greyson Lowe of Enid, OK, Heather Johnson and her husband, Jerris, of Edmond, OK, and Holly Greethurst of Orem, UT; and four great-grandchildren, Brienna Page of Nashville, NC, Dylan Bobbitt of Charles Town, WV, Ella Johnson of Edmond, OK, and Thomas Johnson of Edmond, OK.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Cogdell, and a brother, Horace Batchelor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2010 in the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. Bishop Walter Compton will officiate. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 PM on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home.
