Mary Sue Scruggs Horne, passed away on Sunday, April 04, 2010 at her home in Battleboro. She is now free from pain and safe in Heaven. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles D. Horne, Sr.; children, Peggy Alford Williams and husband Al, Wanda Alford Gold and husband Mack, and Charles (Chuck) Horne, Jr. and wife Robin; grandchildren, Kelly Alan Williams and wife Monica, Jennifer Gold Price and husband Russ, Sheri Williams Franklin and husband Jason, James Gold IV, Jessica Sue Gold, Emily Michelle Horne and James Everette Horne; great grandchildren, Paine Alexander Williams, Lillian Carol Franklin, Jackson Avery Williams and Gabriel Graham Price; step children, Ramona Horne Whaley and husband Harvey, Polly Horne Sanderson and husband Billy; step grandchildren, Beverly Whaley Voltz and husband Billy, Charlie Whaley, Melissa White and husband, David, Amanda Whisman and husband, Jake; step great grandchildren, Delana White, James and Nathan Whisman, Genivive and Allison Voltz. Mary Sue, known by her family as "THE BOSS", enjoyed celebrating special occasions with her family. She took great pride in her flowers and garden. She loved collecting antiques, creating beautiful needlework and crafts and cooking. She made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. She was the heart of her family. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lee Oil Company in Rocky Mount. She was a proud member of the Bethel Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She belonged to the former Battleboro Lioness Club and the Worthwhile Club. She served as a Sunday School teacher at Battleboro Baptist Church and in her younger years as a Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Graham Scruggs and Bessie Lillian Sloan Scruggs; her sisters, Edna Collie, Ruby Lindsey and Barbara Holt. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with the funeral following at 2:00p.m. Interment will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Friends of Hospice, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will also receive friends at the home.
