Mary Alice Hogshire Williams

July 19, 1921 ~ March 22, 2011

Mary Alice Hogshire Williams "Sis", born on July 19, 1921, in Norfolk, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 22, 2011, at the age of 89. Her life was a true example of Christian love and dedication to her family and friends-she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired from Rocky Mount Awning and Tent Company and was an accomplished seamstress, a fantastic cook, and the best confidant anyone could ever hope to have. However, what she considered her greatest life's work was caring for her all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Ryland Lee Hogshire and Mary Peace Hogshire. She was preceded in death by her one true love and beloved husband of 62years, Tom Henry Williams, who died in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Frances "Sister" Hudson, son-in-law, Raymond Hudson, granddaughter, Joni Bailey, brother, Bill Hogshire, and sisters, Frances Harrelson and Betty Jean Walton. Left to cherish her memory are her children, son Robert Williams and wife Kathy, of Rocky Mount, son Thomas Williams and wife Carol of Greenville, son John Williams and wife Jane of Nashville, and son Bill Williams and wife Diane of Jacksonville, Florida; her grandchildren, Christy Williams Welborn, Mary Alma Brewer, Jennifer Foster, Mary Ann Fisher, Randy Hudson, Raylene Owens, Michelle De'Francesco, Andrea Brigman, Tom Hudson, Heather Williams, and Wesley Williams; great-grandchildren, Ryland, Lee, and Mary Catherine Trull, John Brewer, Samantha Sanders, Janice Wiggs, Bethany Foster, Jordan, Taylor, and Mary Peyton Fisher, Miranda and Chandlee Hudson, Brittany and Anna Mae Owens, Mary Grace and Stephen De'Francesco, and Ansley and Brock Brigman; her great-great grandchildren, Dillon, Grace, Mallory, Hudson, and Kaleb. In addition, she is survived by a special sister-in-law, Margaret Hogshire, her "other" children, Violet Gupton and J.E. Hawkins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She especially loved her church home, Morton Memorial Presbyterian Church, and Pastor Mary, who loved and supported her through many of life's trials. A special note of thanks to all of her church family who kept her in their thoughts and prayers and offered support through cards and visits, especially during her last months. A special thank you to those that helped care for her during her illness-Tammy, Pat, Monique, Shonda, Linda, and Harvetta-you are truly angels and the Lord placed you in our path right when we needed you. Kathy, Robert, and Christy will always be deeply grateful to you for all of your loving kindness and care. Visitation with the family will be held at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral home from 12:30 PM on Saturday, March 26th . Following visitation, a funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Mary Todd. A graveside service will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or donations may be given in her memory to Morton Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6605 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, N.C. 27803.
