Marvin Ray Gay, 76, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. He was born in Whitakers, North Carolina in Nash County on 2/12/37 to Willie Sloan Gay and Lucy Wells Gay. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter, Gina Louise Gay. Marvin worked at MC Braswell Company in Battleboro, Barcalounger, and spent over 20 years working for Fontaine Fifth Wheel Company in Rocky Mount as Plant Manager. Prior to full retirement, he worked with the Nash County ABC. Marvin served as a member of the Battleboro Volunteer Fire Department and was also active in the Battleboro Baptist Church men's group and choir. He enjoyed the outdoors immensely and truly enjoyed sharing his passion for fishing and hunting with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Marvin was a member of Gatlin Hunting Club for 25 Years. Ten years ago, he realized his lifelong dream of becoming a member of Roanoke and Tar River Gun Club, AKA "Big Field", where he had been a regular guest for the past 40 years. Some of his most memorable experiences were spent with his buddies at Big Field. He was a dear friend to many people and a wonderful father and grandfather. He was very proud of his children and he was "smitten" with love for all of his grandchildren.
Marvin leaves to cherish his memory, his children; Doug and Drillious Gay of Greenville, NC and their children, Chris and Liz; Edward and Marta Gay of Beaverdam, Virginia and their children, Jonathan and Nicholas; and Randy and Kathy Vaughn of Rocky Mount, NC and their children, Harrison and Thomas. He was blessed to have been born in a very close and loving family. He also leaves to cherish his memory the following older dear sisters and brother; Mary Alice Brown of Raleigh; Evelyn Glover and husband Robert of Rocky Mount; Emma Lou Pippen and husband Marvin of Scotland Neck; Peggy Brown and husband Clarence of Yorktown, VA; Rudolph Gay and wife Kathleen of Rocky Mount. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at the home of Robert and Evelyn Glover. A graveside service will be held 11:00am Friday morning at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Parker Phillips officiating.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Roanoke Tar River Gun Club, P.O. Box 751, Battleboro NC 27809.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Life Care in Rocky Mount for their care and support shown to Marvin during his stay.
