Marvin Earl Nelms

Mr. Marvin Earl Nelms, age 79 of Nashville, NC, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Nash General Hospital. Born April 13, 1931 in Nash County, NC, he was a son of the late Marvin and Utha Howell Nelms. He retired from the City of Rocky Mount Gas Department where he worked in maintenance. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea, and was a member of Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Nashville, NC. Earl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geraldine Brown Nelms, two daughters, Nancy Bass and her husband, Tim, of Nashville, NC and Susan McLean and her husband, Danny, of Battleboro, NC; three sons, Ben Nelms and his wife, Janet, of Rocky Mount, NC, Richard Nelms of Nashville, NC, and John Nelms of Nashville, NC; a sister, Lillian Eason of Lucama, NC; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Viverette, and two brothers, Edmond Nelms and Ned Nelms. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Chapel of Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. James Rogerson will officiate.
