Marshall "Marsh" Pully Mebane

April 5, 1950 ~ November 2, 2022

ROCKY MOUNT – Marshall “Marsh” Pully Mebane, age 72, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on April 5, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Mary Marshall Spears Pully and Young Arrington Pully. Marsh is survived by her husband of 50 years, John M. Mebane, Jr.; her son, John Y. Mebane; her daughters, Ann Mebane Hine and husband, Ken Gerrard, and Grace Mebane Hamrick and husband, Vason; her grandchildren, Battle Hine, Florence Hine, Marshall Hamrick, Walt Hamrick, and Will Hamrick; and her brothers, Bill Pully and wife, Dale, and Lewis Pully. Marsh had a zest for life, was competitive in all she attempted, and her sheer determination carried her through her medical challenges of the past few years. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren on the Albemarle Sound and vacations at Nags Head with her large extended family. Sharing life with her many friends brought her much joy. Golf was her passion, and while she enjoyed the challenge of the game, more important was the companionship of her fellow golfers. Along the way, Marsh taught middle school, owned a tennis shop and worked as a bookkeeper, but some of her most rewarding effort was helping establish a La Leche League for new mothers in Rocky Mount during the mid-1970s. A Celebration of Marsh’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC with The Rev. Becky Michelfelder officiating. A reception will be held at Benvenue Country Club at 100 Southern Boulevard, Rocky Mount, NC following the service. The family will also receive friends at the home from 4 to 8 PM Friday, November 4, 2022. The service will be livestreamed and available for viewing at GSLIVE.ORG In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marsh’s memory to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Guestbook

  1. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  2. I was saddened to hear if the passing of Mrs.Mebane. I am the infant room teacher at Good Shepherd and I was Marshall ‘s first teacher. Mrs. Mebane usually picked Marshall up in the afternoons. She was always pleasant and she loved to talk about all her grandchildren.
I could tell the days she had been playing golf.
I often would ask about Grace, and Vason and the boys when Mr.Mebane would come to the school.
May the Lord God Strengthen the Mebane family during this time .
    Love and Prayers Ms.Ann
