Mark Stewart “Papa” Overton

SPRING HOPE - Mark Stewart "Papa" Overton, 49, passed away on December 29, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the son of Margaret Overton and the late Robert L. Overton, Sr. Mark loved spending time with his family especially going fishing with his grandchildren, wife and brothers. Also, he loved hunting for Indian arrowheads. Along with his mother, Mark leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 12 years, Teresa Overton of the home; son, Stewart Overton of Greenville; three daughters; Jessica Oney and husband Chris of Garner, Sarah Ezzelle and Ashton Ezelle of the home; brothers; Robert Overton, Jay Overton, Paul Overton and friend Amy, Charles Overton and wife Sharon, all of Rocky Mount; sisters, Patricia Boone and husband Larry of Tarboro and Kathy Smith of Dortches. Mark is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Charles and Faye Boone of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Allison Talley and husband Chad of Nashville; brothers-in-law, Horace Dickens of Red Oak and Timothy Cooke of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob Oney, Amaya and Makayla Green, Deana Artis and Jordan "Fatman" Ezzelle; and also many extended family and friends. A service to remember Mark's life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 02, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Gregory officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 7-8:30pm Friday, January 01, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
