Mark Sanders Batten

ROCKY MOUNT - Mark Sanders Batten, age 61, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at UNC Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Johnston County, NC on March 23, 1960, he was the son of the late James Ennis Batten and Mary Hagans Batten Matthews. Mark was employed with Eatmon Racing Engines for 20 years. He was also the owner of Battenbilt Racing Engines where he established an incredible record of wins in the Mid-Atlantic from Pennsylvania to South Carolina. Mark loved golf, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Mark was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His zest for life and generous nature will be missed by all who knew him. Mark is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Cooke Batten; his sons, Mark "Steven" Batten (Missy) and Daniel Matthew Batten (Kate); his daughter, Morgan Anne Batten; his grandchildren, McKenna Batten, Ashton Batten, Makayla Foster, Bryce Batten, and Aubrie Batten; and his brothers, James Batten (Connie), Ray Batten (Beverly); Danny Batten (Brenda), Bobby Batten (Robin), and John Batten (Pam). A Funeral Service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Scott Eatmon officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
