Mae Lancaster Roberson, 84, died after a brief illness Tuesday January 10, 2012. She was born May 15, 1927 in Castalia, the daughter of the late Esker Lancaster and Maggie Griffin Lancaster.
Mae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who enjoyed her independence until the very end of her earthly life. Mae was married for fifty-five joyful years to the late Herman Roberson, who predeceased her in 2004. Theirs was a special love, and during their long marriage the two were seldom seen apart. Mae was a helpmate to Herman as the bookkeeper and business manager of Roberson Plumbing and Heating Co. as well as being a homemaker and partner in the rearing of their six adult children.
Mrs. Roberson was a charter member of the Falls Road Baptist Church, where she worshipped faithfully for more than 50 years. She and her husband enjoyed many strong, long-lasting friendships with other couples in their church and around the North Rocky Mount community they lived in, and she continued to be a good friend and neighbor after relocating to The Pines community in her widowhood. She loved to cook. Her fresh coconut cake was famous, and her Christmas Day brunch two weeks ago, at which she hosted 25 family members, was a huge treat that will be fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren in years to come. She was also a lover of fashion and beautiful clothes, and she was always impeccably dressed for church and social events.
Mae is survived by her children and their spouses: Brink and Morrye Roberson; Becky and Ernie Murray; Jerry and Debbie Roberson; Jimmy Roberson, all of Rocky Mount; Linda and Frank Inscoe of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Steve Roberson of Atlanta, Georgia. Grandchildren: Brinkley Roberson; Andrew Murray; Jessica and Jacob Price; Wesley, Matthew and his spouse Allison, and Logan Roberson; and Parker, Taylor and Mary Griffin Inscoe. Great-grandchild: Carter Shearin.
In earthly death, Mae joins her husband Herman, her beloved parents and brother E.J. Lancaster, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Saturday January 14, 2012 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Harduk officiating, visitation will precede the funeral service at 11:00, and burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
Flowers accepted and memorial donations can be made to the Falls Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 722 Falls Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
