Mae G. Prater, 73, of Rocky Mount died on Saturday, May 12, 2012. She was born December 12, 1938 in Croom, Maryland to the late James A. Bryant and Eva M. Mozingo Bryant She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Prater and grandson, Terry E. Prater Jr. Mrs. Prater was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. Mrs. Prater is survived by her children, Terry Prater and wife, Teresa of Rocky Mount; Donald Prater and wife, Rachel of Lake View, SC; Sharon Stallings and husband, Tommy of Battleboro; Kim Aydelotte of Red Oak; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Walter Graham Jr.; and brother Billy Bates. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Tommy Prater, Kellie Kight, Jennifer Prater, Amy and Matthew Brady, David, Bryan and Marissa Turner; 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her life long companion, Dusty. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service with be held at Wheeler and Woodlief with Rev. Tim Lloyd and Rev. Dr. Walter D. Graham III officiating, on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Memorials in remembrance of Mrs. Prater may be made to Arlington Baptist Church Building Fund, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount NC 27803. We came to know your mother through Edmondson Accounting, she prepared our taxes several times in the last few years. She was always smiling and offering any help she could give us. Reggie, Justin, Zaria, Teddy and I had the awesome pleasure of being her neighbor, friend and everything else for more than 10 years and we were so lucky! Thanks Mrs. Mae for giving me a green thumb (well aqua) and how to truly love thy neighbor! As you grieve know that we are remembering you and honoring the memory of Mrs. Mae.
