HOLLISTER - Lula Coley Coppage, 91, daughter of the late Eddie and Lula Coley entered this life on October 18, 1930 in Halifax County. She departed this life on June 10, 2022 at Carrolton Nursing Home.
Lula is one of eight children in which six preceded her in death.
In 1948 Lula Coppage was married to the late Ransom Coppage which she called "Baby". To this union eight children was born.
Three preceded her is death, Joseph Coppage, Billy Coppage and Cynthia Coppage.
Lula got saved at an early age. She joined Walter's Chapel United Holy Church. She was a faithful member. Working as an usher until her health failed her. Her children was "drug" babies, she drug them to Church every Wednesday night, every Sunday and Sunday night. Later her "Baby" Ransom Coppage got saved and joined Walter's Chapel United Holy Church with her.
Chronicles of Lula: Lizzie and I was pregnant at the same time, Lizzie's baby Synthia Johnson lived and my baby Cynthia Coppage died in 1971. The doctors fixed me so that I could not have anymore children. I said ‘Baby" we can have fun now because we can't have anymore children. On October 9, 1972 my Miracle baby" Viola Coppage was born." The Doctor said one thing God said another.
After the first six of her children were adults Lula went to school and got her CNA Certificate where she worked at Park View Hospital until it moved to Nash General. Then she worked as a care giver in different homes until her health failed her.
Lula leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Alice Pullen, of Baltimore MD. Four daughters, Lizzie Johnson, Rocky Mount, NC, Ernestine Richardson (Andrew), Littleton, NC, Martha Richardson (Leslie), Hollister, NC, Viola Pierce (Orah), Rocky Mount, NC. One Son, Ransom Coppage, (Helen), Kinston, NC.
A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Lula's Life will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Walter's Chapel United Holy Church, 1857 Ita Road, Hollister, NC 27844 with the Elder William Ragland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow the service at Walter's Chapel United Holy Church Cemetery. A Repast will follow the burial at the church. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
