Lee Childers Toffton

Ellen Lee Childers Toffton, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010. She was born July 2, 1930 in Harnett County, daughter of the late William Ellis Childers and Mary Pearl Ivey. She was also preceded in death by brothers, William Childers and Bobby Gene Childers; sister, Mary Ruth Nicholas; and grandson, Robbie Little. Ellen married James Warren Toffton on February 23, 1946 at the age of 15. Together they raised three children and built a wonderful life for their family. He was her strength, partner and best friend. They were married 64 years. Ellen was a homemaker and dedicated her life in caring for the ones she loved. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband, James Warren Toffton; daughter, Mary Ellen Toffton of Rocky Mount; sons, James Toffton and wife Sue of Rocky Mount and Ricky Lee Toffton and Elizabeth of Newport; grandchildren, Jennifer Vorderman, Jason Toffton, Mandy Briley, Brandon Toffton, Catherine Ann Kirilov, Mary Leigh Boykin, and Donna Nobles; and nine great-grandchildren; She was also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Childers of Gallatin TN and John Henry Childers of Croquet MN; four sisters, Peggy Dawn Nicholas of Butler PA, Rosa Lee Botelho of Fredericksburg VA, Betty Ann Pergerson of Youngsville NC, and Edna Faye Mitchell of Rocky Mount; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7-8:30pm Friday, March 26, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A graveside service to remember Ellen will be at 2:00pm Saturday, March 27, 2010 in the Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Alvin R. Davis officiating.
