Kirby and I have so many memories growing up. We’ve spent a lot of time reminiscing over the years. Those good times together will always be close to my heart. He was a good a friend as a person could have. He was like a brother to me, and I’m going to miss him. I’m so glad he was blessed with such a wonderful, loving wife and daughter. May God grant them the strength to get through this time of grief. I’ll miss you Kirby, you take care until we meet again. Later cuz, David.
With fond memories of sweet Kirby, Kathy Auten, Libby Beam and Joe Gainey
So very sorry to hear of Kirby’s passing. May your memories together give you comfort. He was a sweet man.
Love you Kirby.
Kirby was my first cousin. He was always so kind and thoughtful. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family. Love Marcie Carpenter
Kirby and I shared so many memories of our time as friends growing up in Cherryville together. From the cute boy I knew in elementary school to the handsome young man in high school and accomplished athlete on the football field, his warmth and genuine personality endeared Kirby to everyone he met. Always smiling and that twinkle of mischief in his eyes became the signature of who Kirby was. However, I always sensed that beneath the surface of that smile there was a much deeper soul that indeed did contain the man he would become. In watching the memorial video spanning the years of Kirby’s life, I saw that gentle man who loved his dear wife and children above all and the special love and affection he had for animals and the beauty of nature. He found true peace in the magnificent mountains and comfort in God’s gracious gifts in nature that surrounded him. I believe that in all the years he lived in service and care of those in the mental health community, Kirby did more good than anyone could have imagined. He had discovered his true purpose in life and lived that life to the very end of his own. I have been deeply blessed by having had Kirby in my life as all have been who knew and loved him. May our Father in Heaven grant to him eternal rest.
In loving memory of a dear and beloved friend.Harriette Gurley GilbertCHS Class of 1968
