Katie Ruth Langley Whitley

Rocky Mount - Katie Ruth Langley Whitley, 104, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at her home. A Nash County Native, she was the daughter of Sidney Ross Langley and Emma Belle Bulluck, both deceased. She was the widow of Lonnie Whitley. “Miss Katie,” as she was affectionately called, is survived by her brother, Lester Langley (Katherine) of Rocky Mount; sisters, Daisy Mae Jenkins of Newport News, VA, Eleanor Yates of Sarasota, IL, and Doris Fisher of Nashville, NC. Katie will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Katie is preceded in death by brothers, John D. Langley, Ernest Floyd Langley, Percy Ross Langley, Otha Langley, Odie Langley, Sidney Ross Langley, Jr., Joseph Alfred Langley; and sisters, Bessie Belle Langley and Bertha Lee Langley. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Hawley officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Per Katies wishes, as a life-long animal lover, memorial gifts may be made to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, New York 10128-6804 or PETA, 501 Front Street, Norfolk, VA 23510.
