Joyce Davis “Matthews” Page

June 16, 1947 ~ November 26, 2020

ROCKY MOUNT - Joyce Davis "Matthews" Page, age 73, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2020. Born in Beaufort County, NC on June 16, 1947, she was the daughter of the late David Bernard Davis and Fannie Esley McKinney Davis. She was also preceded in death by her brother David Davis, Jr. Joyce was an active and long-time member of the Nashville Baptist Church and gave generously of her time to helping others in her church family. She would always cook for the weekly Wednesday night Family Fellowship Meals, a calling she looked forward to providing every week. Known for her fabulous talents in the kitchen, Joyce would often volunteer her time delivering Meals on Wheels and even authored a few of her very own cookbooks which she shared with family and friends. A licensed Registered Nurse, helping others in need came natural for Joyce. She retired after many years from Boice-Willis Internal Medicine Clinic as the Office Manager, having previously worked for Dr. Kenneth Weeks before his retirement as his nurse. Following her retirement, she continued to help others through her charity work with the Rocky Mount Red Cross, organizing and coordinating their blood drive volunteers. When she wasn't actively helping others in the community, Joyce was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed quiet moments reading, working in her garden, and enjoyed tracing her genealogical roots. A dedicated mother and grandmother, she was always excited to attend any number of events for her grandchildren, whether it was a dance recital, ball game, or any other extracurricular activity. Joyce cherished her family and gave willingly of her time and talents to create lasting memories for all. She often would write short fictional stories for her grandchildren, many of them involving a pesky squirrel which would interrupt her while she would try and enjoy her bird watching pastime. A beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, Joyce's legacy will forever live on in the lives of those she touched. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Angela Matthews Griffin of Rocky Mount and her son, William "Billy" Matthews of Wilmington; her grandchildren, David "Thomas" Griffin, and Hailey and Alivia "Livvy" Matthews; her sisters, Patsy Davis Harris of Pinetown and Sandra Davis Belch and her husband, Doug, of Edenton; her brother, Lloyd Davis and his wife, Faye, of Pinetown; her sister in law Sue Davis also of Pinetown; as well as many nieces and nephews.
