Joyce Blunt Rose of Rocky Mount and Elm City went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 13, 2015. She was born on December 15, 1930 to the late Joseph D. Blunt and Lillie Mae West Blunt. Preceding her in death is her loving husband of 57 years, David Jeptha Rose II, her Step Mother, Mary Savada Coggin Blunt, her dearest sister, Anne Blunt Dorsett, her brother, Robert W. Joyner, Jr., as well as her brother-in-law, Dr. I. W. “Boojack” Rose, Sr.
A devoted Christian, Mrs. Rose was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church, sharing her strong faith with everyone she came to know. For over 25 years, Joyce dedicated herself as a Lady of the Bible Study Fellowship, or B.S.F., which was held at Sunset Baptist Church where she became known as the “Candy Lady” for always giving out peppermints to all the children and those she came into contact with. Following her marriage, she volunteered for many years as a “Pink Lady” at Nash General Hospital where she touched many lives with her kindness and heart. She will be forever remembered as a loving mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother, and dear friend to all those left behind.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her three sons, David J. Rose III and his wife, Julie, of Nashville, William Blunt “Bill” Rose and his wife, Diane, of Lenexa, Kansas, and Daniel Woodall “Danny” Rose of Rocky Mount; her two brothers-in-law, Mr. F. Raymond Dorsett and Mr. George E. Rose and his wife, Wayne, both of Rocky Mount; and a sister-in-law, Virginia F. “Sis” Rose also of Rocky Mount. The loving grand-mother she was, Joyce had six grandchildren, David Barrett “Bear” Rose, Casey Rose Perreault and her husband, Dickie, Ashley Marie Rose, Jessica Ann Rose, and Sarah Katherine Rose as well as one great-granddaughter, Ms. Avery Joy Perreault. Left to cherish her memories are also her nieces, Linda Finney Rose Dixon, Virginia Lee “Missy” Rose, Jo Anne Dorsett Lea, Kim Joyner Hinton, and Angie Joyner and her nephews Greg Joyner, Robert Weldon Joyner, I.W. “Woods” Rose, Jr., George Edwards Rose, Jr., and Michael Scott Rose.
A Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Rose will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. Friends and relatives are welcome to visit with the family one hour prior to the services beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will immediately follow the services at Pineview Cemetery next to her husband.
The love and care provided by her care givers, Linda Barrett, Carolyn Bynum, Althea Green, Gloria Smith, Leslie Gilmore, Vincie Mills, and Ashley Manning, will never be forgotten and for that the Rose Family is forever grateful. A volunteer at heart, which was shared by all the Ladies from B.S.F., David, Bill, and Danny, will always remember the times shared with their mother, through the way she lived her life and the importance of Faith instilled by the Bible Study Fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Nash General, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
