ROCKY MOUNT - Joseph Allen Godwin, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Born in Nash County, NC on October 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Lee Smith Godwin and Clyda Sykes Godwin. He was also preceded in death by nine of his siblings, Nancy, Louise, Phyllis, Ed, Everett, Raymond, Isaac, Paul (Sr.) and Cecil Godwin.
Joe was a Vietnam War veteran where he served in the United States Army and was a decorated serviceman. He was a very giving person to everyone he knew and even to a stranger if they needed help. Joe's life was filled with happiness, as he enjoyed telling jokes, and kept everyone laughing. His beloved family will miss him dearly.
Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory, sister, Katie Godwin Varnell of Rocky Mount; nephew, Paul Ervin Godwin, Jr.; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Peachtree Baptist Church Cemetery in Spring Hope with Pastor Dave Grogan officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4200 Morganton Road, #300, Fayetteville, NC 28314.
