Johnie Ervin Davis

June 6, 1922 ~ June 4, 2013

Johnie Ervin Davis, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A lifelong resident of Nash County, Johnie was born on June 6, 1922, the son of the late Johnie R. Davis and Ella Davis. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Richards and Christine Glover. After graduating from Nashville High School, Johnie went on to serve his country in World War II in the 333 Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1945, having been awarded the Purple Heart from being wounded near the Rhine River in Germany. He was with Tulloss Tractor - John Deere as a warehouse manager for 39 years. After he retired, he worked with Peoples Bank then spent 13 years with Johnson Funeral Home. Johnie was very active in his community with West Mount Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He enjoyed the annual Barbeque suppers by always selling tickets to various companies, friends and family. Johnie never met a stranger. His great love encompassed the Lord, his church, family and friends. Visiting the sick, elderly and shut-ins, and sharing his garden vegetables brought a smile to all he touched. Johnie was a lifelong Deacon of Union Baptist Church and most recently Southside Baptist Church. He served on various church committees, Sunday School teacher and in the church choir. He lived his faith thru serving others. Many children were blessed thru knowing "Mr. Johnie". Johnie and Helen's home was always open as a sanctuary for visiting preachers, missionaries, friends and those needing a home. He believed and lived this special verse, "Be thou faithful until death and I will give you a crown of life". Surely Johnie is enjoying his homecoming united with the Lord, his family and friends. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen Hyde Davis; daughters, Deb Davis (Bunny) of Atlanta GA and Jo Jo Davis Manning and husband Steve of Momeyer; grandchildren, Sherri and Scott Wells, and Wayne and Courtney Manning; great-grandchildren, his name sake, Davis and Charlotte Manning, and Lauren and Lindsey Wells; brother, Joe Davis and wife Shirley; sister, Mary Davis Boone; and special friend and adopted daughter, Elaine Luper Stancil. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Weedie Hayes, Faye and Pete Farmer, Hubert and Lucille Hyde, Dorthene Rackley and Ann Hyde. He also leaves behind his baby, Daxie, the little Dachshund to take care of "Mama". The family wishes to thank Nash General Hospital, Kindred Nursing Facility and Hospice for their loving care and support shown to Johnie. 10. As we make our journey through this life, death is our final battle. Whenever I am troubled, & lost in deep despair, I bundle all my troubles up & go to God in prayer. I tell him I am heartsick & lost & lonely, too, That my mind is deeply burdened & I dont know what to do But I know he loves me & I humbly ask if in his love hell calm my heart, for me& then I just keep quiet & think, only thoughts of peace & if I abide in stillness my restless murmurings cease. (Ps.3418) (John 316) Due to the ramson sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we know that we have the hope of seeing our loved ones once again. The Bible gives us hope, over & over again. Jesus said I am the resurrection, & the life. He that exercises faith in me, though he dies, will come to life again. (John 1125) Jesus also said I am the vine & my Father is the cultivator. (John 151) The Bibles tells us that there will be no more tears, no pain, or sickness & death will be no more. (Rev. 213,4) What a wonderful time, we can look forward to, seeing our loved ones once again
